Top-5 Games of the 2010s

Updated: Aug 27, 2021

By Nick Andrade

I think it still sounds strange to me that we call the years from 2010 to 2019 but maybe that’s because I’m getting old and I don’t want to talk about it.

However, there were some incredible games that have really influenced the way we enjoy AAA RPG games today, and really made me dive in and become of some games that ended up making a fortune by producing sequel after sequel.

I’ve decided I won’t put any of these in specific order and just list five of my favourites. It’s by no means the best ones and I’m going to be missing some big hitters, but these are my personal favourites that had big impacts on me.

Mass Effect 2 (2010)

To be honest I never played Mass Effect 1 and only got Mass Effect 2 as a gift from my brother who thought I would like it. Mass Effect blew me away in all aspects. Which makes me really want to dive back into the remastered versions that are coming out.

I became so immersed in the universe of this game that I felt such strong times to Commander Shepard that I really did feel like I was his character making tough decisions.

I have a hard time being the bad guy in video games and this was no different. Every decision I made had to be the righteous one.

The Last of Us (2013)

What a ride this game is. Naughty Dog never disappointed and with this being a new IP, they brought out all the stops and I was left wanting more.

It’s hard, especially during the last decade or so to make a ‘zombie’ story feel fresh, but they hit it out of the park with this one. Zombie stories don’t normally appeal to me, but this one was hard to put down.

Skyrim (2011)

I’m normally not someone who immediately falls in love with open world games because I usually feel overwhelmed by the whole scope of them, but my god this game is incredible down to every little detail.

I took a few arrows to the knee, but I survived and after I don’t know how many hours in this game, I immerged fully versed in Dragon Language.

Arkham Knight (2015)

I know Arkham City is probably most people’s favourites here but I’m putting down Arkham Knight here because it’s the final chapter (for now) of the Batman Arkham games.

Rocksteady did such a great job tying a bow on this series and it honestly left me satisfied without craving another game in the series (until now).

Hearing Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill go at it one more time was a treat.

Marvel’s Spider-Man (2018)

This game just did everything right for me. Spider-Man is such a specific character and tough to do right but they did everything you could ever expect in a Super Hero game and I think really raised the bar now for Super Hero games of the future to hit the mark like this one did.

Miles Morales however did such a great job at trimming the fat in 2020, but to see Peter in all his glory and see them really do justice to the character I would say, maybe for the first time gave me a nostalgia trip that I couldn’t kick.

Honorable mentions

Before I get roasted for my hot takes here especially when I’m missing so much. I will shoutout games that I know are at the pinnacle of the best of the decade.

I might not have played them all, but I won’t confess to which games I didn’t in feel for

pitchforks but here’s some more that stand the test of time.

Red Dead Redemption 2

The Witcher 3

Uncharted 4

Horizon Zero Dawn

God of War
